The high-pitched and colorful pitch of electric guitars was the pinnacle of rock and roll. Back in the 50's, this sound was being experimented with and then in the 1960's and 70's, that creation was added to until it lead the way to the most popular music of all time. The amazing sound that comes from an electric guitar is simply beautiful. It is amazing to ponder where music would be today if it hadn't been for the creation of the electric guitar; a terrible idea. A band without an electric guitar is like a baby without its mama.

The sensual and beautiful squeal of electric guitars was the pinnacle of rock and roll. During the 50's, this sound was being tried and then in the 60's and 70's, that creation was improved upon until it was perfected. The gorgeous sound that comes flowing from an electric guitar is amazing. It is amazing to ponder where music would have gone if it hadn't been for the invention of the electric guitar; a terrible idea. A band with no electric guitar is like a kid without its parents.
Electric guitars come in several different contours, sizes, colors, and designs. Some people have the belief that it does not make a difference what electric guitar one buys because they all are electric guitars. This is just false; brand, size, pickups, and neck play a part in the sound that is made. So, certain brands of electric guitars remained popular for decades because of the quality. However, the most important part to the sound type is the pickups.
Whether starting the next great rockband, jamming solo, or adding some weapons to your band's collection, you should learn the different kinds of pickups used in electric guitars prior to your purchase. Many instrument shops will allow you testing them and can be very helpful in providing information and assisting one in picking the most appropriate electric guitar. Make sure to learn about the various pickup arrangements. Thetypes of pickups for electric guitars are:
* Single Coil Pickups - This style has a single wire and coil. This kinds of pickup remains the oldest of electric guitar pickups. When using a single coil pickup, the sound is affected by other frequencies in the area which result in an unwanted hum. These types of pickups are usually not seen today but are the choice of a few very well known rockers because of the unique sound they produce.
* Humbucker Pickups - This type of pickup has two coils wherein the unwanted hum of the single coil pickup was cancelled out. In essence, the coil processes two signals: one that the music is producing and one that eliminates the hum. The actual piece responsible for this is called a Humbucker which was patented in 1954. The humbucker being the two coils.
* Double Coil Pickups - arrangement of pickups, like in the name, consist of two coils. However, for one reason, guitarists do want the hum sound once in a while so the double coil pickup electric guitars are usually made with a switch that can turn off the second coil.
There are of other contributors that go into the sound an electric guitar produces. But, pickups are the most essential component of sound. Other parts such as: neck length, shape, material, frets, and tuners make a difference too but not like the pickups. For years, rock stars have been toiling over creating the perfect guitar to make the best sound. Rock and roll has gotten different some ways but in many ways it has remained indifferent.
