A Life less Ordinary: This is a black comedy in regards to a janitor who abducts his ex-supervisor's little girl, a ruined heiress who finds life a bore. In the mean time, 2 ambassadors from heaven (Hunter and Lindo) have to find a way to make these 2 fated souls fall in love. Cast includes Ewan McGregor, Cameron Diaz, Holly Hunter, Delroy Lindo, Ian Holm, Ian McNeice, Stanley Tucci, Dan Hedaya, Tony Shalhoub, Maury Chaykin, and Judith Ivey. (103 minutes,'97)
Frozen Assets: Low-octane joke trifle, in which Bernsen is moved to a new bank only to find it's a sperm bank (get it?). He meets censored biologist Long and after a lot of wisecracks they find that they are drawn to each other. Cast includes Shelley Long, Corbin Bernsen, Larry Miller, Dody Goodman, Matt Clark, Paul Sand, Teri Copley, Gloria Camden, and Gerrit Graham. (96 minutes,'92)
Air America: Guides Mel and Bob are part of the C.IA.?s smuggling operation in Laos throughout the Vietnam War. They crate anything and anyone anyplace. Supposed action comedy has few giggles and makes little sense. Cast includes Mel Gibson, Robert Downey, Jr., Nancy Travis, David Marshall Grant, Aisle Smith, Ken Jenkins, and Art La Fleur. Red Salute: Absconder screwball Stanwyck meets no nonsense cadet Young in this clone of It Occurred One Day with crazy socio political wrinkle. Barbara's boyfriend (Albright) is an interrogator who makes Communists talk. This is a definitely a new twist. Cast includes Barbara Stanwyck, Robert Young, Hardie Albright, Cliff Edwards, Ruth Donnelly, and Gordon Jones. (78 minutes,'35)
Repulsion: Polanski's first English-language film is a phenomenal mental shocker portraying the psychological deterioration of a sexually repressed gal left alone in her sibling's condo for few nights. The film hasn't lost one bit of its impact. It can leave you anxious for many nights after watching it. Cast includes Catherine Deneuve, Ian Hendry, John Fraser, Patrick Wymark, Yvonne Fumeaux, and James Villiers. (105 minutes,'65)
Rambo: Much better than part II, this one continues to be firmly footed in the genre of mindless action films, as our brawny idol goes behind Russian battle lines in Afghanistan to save his buddy from a prison fortress. You will see lots of eruptions to keep the action going and some funny stuff thrown in too. Cast includes Sylvester Stallone, Richard Crenna, Marc de Jonge, Kurtwood Smith, Spiros Focas, and Sasson Gabai. (101 minutes,'88)
Straight Out of Brooklyn: The story of a black family?s going nowhere existence in the ghettos of Brooklyn, N.Y., and the oldest son?s plan to rob a local drug dealer to turn things around for the family. Cast includes George T. Odom, Ann D. Sanders, Lawrence Gilliard, Jr., Barbara Sanon, Reana E. Drummond, and Mark Malone. (91 minutes,'91)
Thieves like Us: 3 black sheep flee from jail in'30s south and go on a binge. The youngest (Carradine) falls in love with an easy, ignorant gal (Duvall). In spite of recognizable trappings, Altman digs deeply into period environment and hefty characterizations. This film gets better every time you watch it. Cast includes Keith Carradine, Shelley Duvall, John Schuck, Bert Remsen, Louise Fletcher, Ann Latham, and Tom Skerritt. (123 minutes,'87)
Slave Girls: The all too glamorous Andress is seized by locals and painted in arrangement for sacrifice in a scene essentially equivalent to that prompted by ex-spouse John Derek for current spouse Bo years later in Tarzan, The Ape Man. Cast includes Ursula Andress, Stacy Keach, Claudio Cassinelli, Antonio Marsina, and Franco Fantasia. (93 minutes,'78)
