Acoustic music has come a long way. Traditionally, people seem to think of acoustic songs simply as the songs that rock stars would play on MTV Unplugged, or a revised version of a normal songs. Of course acoustic music does imply that initial image of being unplugged, raw, and simple.

But acoustic songs can also be viewed in a different light. Under the umbrella of the acoustic genre comes other types of music that some consider to be different that acoustic. Folk, lounge, mellow, piano, bluegrass and other genres of music contain that same unplugged feel.

In the indie music world, acoustic music has taken off. Many smaller groups and individuals tour around with a keyboard and guitar and consider themselves acoustic artists. Of course acoustic music itself could be the umbrella of style, or under many different umbrellas of styles such as alternative, indie, and others.

From there, you can go in a few different directions. Since acoustic music is so simple, you might want to think about coming up with the music first. Some acoustic artists come up with the lyrics first, then set them to music. Coming up with the music first can kill two birds with one stone - even if you don't have the lyrics, you know how they need to match the music.

Speaking of the best places for acoustic music, bars, coffee shops, lounges, and smaller venues are the places to visit to find the best acoustic songs in your area. Although some artists have expanded their fan base to accommodate a large venue, small and intimate locations are more prevalent with acoustic artists.

Sincerity is the key in lyrics. Sometimes it is very difficult to get the exact feeling out in words. One method many musicians use is to try and envelope themselves in the situation that caused them to want to write the song. Many songs are about break-ups. Writers try to recall all the emotions, situations, visuals, smells, and thoughts that were happening during that time. Dwell in that realm and soak up all the feelings. This usually will help get some more creative and sincere lyrics on paper.

The internet has also been a new zone for finding great acoustic music. Internet radio is becoming a very easy and free way to access music, and acoustic listeners have taken advantage of the service as much as anyone else. These radio stations have classified acoustic music as a channel or station of its own so whoever is looking for it can find in a few simple clicks.

It is true that acoustic songs have taken a special slice of the music genre pie. The great thing about music is that all different people relate to all different types of music. Acoustic music is no different. The fans are loyal. The artists are passionate. Acoustic music is here to stay.
